Taylor “Swiftly” Claims Nine VMA Awards
Superstar Taylor Swift made her mark on the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) by winning nearly every single award she had been nominated for last night, Tuesday 12 September.
Icons from the music industry gathered at the highly-anticipated 40th annual VMA ceremony, which was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
This year, Swift’s “Anti-Hero” single dominated the night, earning her nominations in the categories of Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing.
The 33-year-old singer’s “Midnights” claimed the Album of the Year award, while her recent global “Eras” tour that has had fans in a tizzy, was officially declared the Show of the Summer.
Swift was also eager to cheer on her friends’ successes, and was seen mouthing “I love you” to Selena Gomez and Rema as they claimed the Best Afrobeats for their hit single, “Calm Down.”
Nicki Minaj was also in the spotlight several times, as she hosted the proceedings, performed alongside hip hop icons, Grandmaster Flash and LL Cool J, and took home the Best Hip-Hop Video award for her popular single, “Super Freaky Girl”.
